Possibly one of if not my most favorite character in all of Bleach. I won't go into some explanation wiki about the character. However I'll discuss some things that might be spoils to some people who might stumble upon this blog.
SO DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T GOTTEN CAUGHT UP IN THE BLEACH MANGA.
Gin was the former Captain of 3rd Division in the Soul Society before his defection with Sosuke Aizen (The series main antagonist). He's a strange man who seems to never show anything less than a sadistic empty grin. Even I felt that he was one of those character's who represents himself as the guy who wants nothing but destruction and despair from his victims. What makes him compelling is the role he played to the very end as a bad guy had everyone fooled. Until he finally attacked Aizen. As it turned out he was good all along. Probably one of the best heel-face turn-Reverses I've seen in just about any anime. But I guess most anime can't be proud of 280+ episode. I really hope his sacrifice in the end didn't kill him because it would suck to lose a guy like that.
Also I got to say his zanpakuto is pretty awesome. First everyone thought all it was, was a spear/blade that could increase to any length. But then it's really about the speed and then it's just the speed at which his sword dissipates and poison his victims. But yeah I hope this character is not dead and he can be saved because his turn over was well worth it. I know people wanted to see him as a jerk but I like his turnover back to the side of light.
